my nieces at the beach C&C welcome

They are from Chicago and do not get to see the beach often. The sun was out and it was hard for them not to squint. Any tips for next time?

Nice shots, you've exposed them well for difficult subject on a bright day.

Later in the day will make the light much better for photography, but if you must shoot during the middle of the day collapsible diffuser is great to turn down the brightness. Of course you then need and assistant to hold this for you. Try cloning out the post in the second shot and cropping it to portrait. There seems to be a bit of moiré pattern (external link)on her top in the second shot. Not sure how this can be avoided.

It's very difficult shooting in full sun. You did a good thing to put the sun behind them, and the only thing you could do better would be to over expose the background to brighten up their faces, or use a reflector to bounce some light forward.. or fill flash...

Cute shots though and I'm sure you'll love them regardless.
