I've been looking for a cooperative Wood Duck fo several months. Guess i'm in the wrong part of the country.

I'm in the Devils Lake area. They are hard to get close to. I was looking for a pileated woodpecker that has a nest in this area and came across this small water hole. I had to crawl about 40 yards on my belly to get close. Lay on wet ground, and pick off about 10 ticks when done. Will I do again? You bet! I'll be there the next day off I have. No good pictures of the woodpecker yet!

Thanks for the info. Your efforts were well rewarded with a great shot.

We've had Pileated woodpeckers around here but they are even harder to get close to then the wood duck.

Orignally I'm from S.E. N. Dak and don't live far from there now. Meet you in Fargo for coffee some day?
