I went to the Palo Alto Baylands this afternoon to check out the
nesting egrets and herons (since I had no luck in Newark). I took
two cameras, the 20D with the 800 Sigma f5.6 and the XT with the
400 f5.6L, the 20D on a monopod and XT handheld. Here are a
few shots.

1 Snowy on a nest (XT/400)

Great Pictures, you lucky so and so, I managed to get 3 in flight but at the time had a tc on my lens, hence they came out slightly soft.

Love #4, just a beautiful pose! The one of the minnow getting dropped to the chicks is cool also. Man I wish I lived near a beach/ocean/rookery/etc. :(

Well done series George. Egrets build such flimsy nests on the smallest limbs and to raise three chicks is amazing.

Thanks k55, Karen, George, Hali, Deb, and Kevin. I was glad to be able to
get out this weekend and see this. I was afraid it was going to rain again, but
it cleared up in the afternoon. This little guys don't stay little long...

By the way, here is a Great Egret in flight taken with the 20D and Sigma 800. It
got a little too close, but I think it's still a nice shot.

Thanks dwp and Dan.

Dan, I am luck to be here. But you know there are millions of people here that
don't even know or care that all these wonders of nature exist so close. It's a
shame...
