These two shots are the best due to overcast light conditions and a big crop (~25% of full image) but I was still pleased to add this species to my life list.

Taken in Nanaimo, B.C. last week. Bigma handheld.

Congrats on the new duck, Stephen! What a wonderful Nanaimo trip you had. I'm envious.

That's great. I always get excited when I add a new bird, and the Harlequin is a
very pretty bird which makes it all the better.

That's one bird I'd love to point my camera at, but I doubt if I ever will.....they are as rare as hens teeth where I live. Nice capture....you've gotta be happy to get those shots.

Thanks Patrick you mentioned that they were numerous in the summer so I'm glad that I got to see, and photograph them now.

Here's one more shot as they swam close into shore (still a big crop). Bigma handheld again. I was using a large dead tree that had washed up at the high tide line for cover.

Thanks Ted and Gary. I must say that getting four Life List birds in 1 1/2 days was pretty lucky.

Very nice Stephen, especially that last one. Are these migratory, or do they hang around all year? Don't recall seeing any go through here.

Congratulations on this addition to your Life List. The Harlequin duck is one of the most photogenic duck in the world along with the Wood Duck and Mandarin Duck. :-)

Best regards
