My Own 28-135 IS - Highly Recomend the lens

Read many positive reviews on the lens. Ate Ramen for a few weeks, and just got my new lens. Previous was 28-80 f/3.5-5.6 USM which I got as a kit with Elan II a few years back. AF on the lens went and this seemed like a fit replacement. The only regret is that my old lens didn't break sooner so that I would get this one

Went out in to the back yard (of my neighbor's house... no less). The lens is working out great - I don't have the need for wide angle and the apparent 45-215mm range is as good as it gets for fashion (model tests). A little blurry wide open, but as I shoot at either f/8.0 or f/11.0 this is not an issue. IS is AMAZING. Especially at the long end. The compression at 135mm is very nice as well. Even at f/5.6.

before i bought (could afford) L lenses this was my primary lens
i still use it sometimes as a walkaround lens

you will find a lot of people here on the forum that are very happy with this lens

Still my favourite walkaround lense and it is certainly good value for money. Certainly seems to be working for you!

After reading about that lens on this board, I intend to make it my next purchase. Well, first I need a larger memory card and yet another bag for my stuff. But after that the lens is mine...

You know it seems like every where I go, everyone either owns, or consider their next purchase to be either the Canon 28-135 USM IS, or the 50mm f/1.8. Possibly because they're the cheapest for the feature they offer ( IS and fast lens ? )?

I will agree the non-pro Canon idea. I bought my DReb before Christmas and after lurking here and reading from others I purchased these last week. It would be a great bundle. However, since this is my first DSLR and I have limited knowledge, I would have been hesitant to jump in at that point. Still would have been a nice option.

But ya would be a good idea. The problem is the folks beginning, might find it hard-pressed to spend bout 1600$ or so for the 300D with both a 28-135 and the 50mm 1.8, then see the 10D and wonder why the 10D is cheaper ( Body only ). So I dunno, I dont often see canon bundle those kinds of bundles, they're usally left upto the retailer to do if they choose to do so , provided they have "just the body" in stock. But most retailers like Best Buy, Compusa, and other main-consumer retailers arnt going to do anything with the bundles, other than say , get a free CF card with it or something, as they dont carry the lens in store. I Could definitly see a specialty shop doing what you just described ( not Ritz Camera tho, they wouldnt go with a 'bundle' unless it included a quantary lens ).

I purchased my 28-135 IS with my 300D about a month ago. My kit lens has been collecting dust on my desk and has gotten very little use. I supposed when I have the need for a wider angle lens, I will rely on the kit more.

The lens is slow for indoor and low light conditions, but my only time available to 'shoot' seems to be during daylight hours on the weekends. My next lens will hopefully be the 50 1.8, but I need to find a vendor who has one in stock.

I haven't had the pleasure of shooting with any 'L' glass, but for my current needs it provides a decent level of sharpness, color and contrast. Since I am going to stick with the Canon system in the long run, I will most likely enter the L club sometime soon (70-200 F4).

Would this be a good compliment to my Tamron 28-80 F2.8? I love the lens, but need a bit more telephoto sometimes and would like to try the IS features.

Otherwise should I look for a 70-2x0 IS for this purpose (the 2.8 L is out of my range for about 6 months)
