I took this shot of a really cool girl from holland. I was using my 5D and my 70-200 f2.8.
It's taken at f4.0 1/320 ISO400 straight out of the camera with no PP.
So what I want to know is... Is this photo sharp?
Does the 100% crop look right? Is that how sharp it's supposed to be?
I don't know whether it's a lack of confidence or whether this shot is actually blurry

If that is an unprocessed shot then I think it is sharp. A little USM and you will be set.

Definitely sharp for no post processing. Do a little USM as stated above and you'll be set.

Sharpening for me is by far the hardest part of PP , do these look alright?
Too much? Not enough?

Thanks again,
Simon

How sharp did you expect it to be for an unprocessed image? You should be happy.

That's the thing... I didn't know what I SHOULD expect. I suppose I'm pretty happy, there's more than enough useable images from the shoot.

just curious why a unprocessed image should not be as sharp as a processed image, except in the case of when you have applied usm. But that strikes me as saying that sharpness can't be achieved without pp or usm, is this correct? and if it is, goddamn digi really does suck in some aspects.
Also i did have some real problems getting dusk shots of the prague castle looking sharp, seemed extraordinarily hard to focus through the viewfinder or is the above applicable in this case? or am i just a crap focuser lol

Yes. There is an Anti Alias filter in front of the sensor. It's a trade off: You can get sharper images out of the camera, but then you have the risk of moiré...

As a 100% crop, it seems OK to me.

A little USM and you will be set.

For a shot like that, I might only sharpen the eyes & let the rest stay as it came out of the camera. Sometimes I'd soften the details in her face, too.
