I bought this lens for closeup bird photography and also hoping to try some sports (softball) shooting this summer. Just tried it out for the first time in my back yard today after work. This lens is so sharp, I think I cut my eyeball on it!

Now that's one sharp butt:

Nice shots Liz, and the lens looks real sharp. Glad to see white-throated sparrows around the area too.

Liz, congratulations on your new lens, it looks to be a very sharp copy. I believe you will find it to be good lens for flight shots as well.

Great effort. Good sharp images.

I'm curious. Did you use a remote firing device or stay at your camera and shoot normally?

From your first shot it doesn't appear the bird is that thrilled with your new lens. However, it's a sharp shooter for sure.

Thanks everyone - I'd read so many great reviews of this lens I thought it would be perfect for my backyard feeder setup. I have a blind set up on the deck, and a feeder with a dead branch right there for the birds to perch on. I can just sit in there and fire away as the birds come and go. The two images I posted are uncropped, so the distance is just right for this lens. I guess I have to hope that the birds will turn around and face the direction I want the next time!

Also I plan to use this lens to try my hand at sports photography in some summer softball games. I was really happy with how sharp the images were right out of the camera.

Hank, to answer your question I was just sitting there hand holding the lens. No remote firing.
