Very Interesting ?!

B&H has lowered the price of the Digital Rebel on their Web site. The body is listed for $859.95 and the kit with lens is listed for $929.95. :o

This is a little unusual, since the reduced price is openly displayed, not 'email me a better price' or the like. ?!

I wonder if this is the start of something. ?!

Something "NEW" is in the horizon!!!!

But, I'm still happy with my Rebel so it doesn't affect me :-)

Well, Nikon came out with the answer to the DR. So now canon has to come out with another one to stay ahead.

it's just a response to the changing demand for the Drebel due to release of the D70. Actually, I was sure that Canon would not change its price for longer than that. It may look as a bad signal to the market: "okay, we admit: D70 is better."

I bought my DRebel from B&H about a month ago, I wonder if I qualify for $70 refund. I don't remember the rules for such situations. Probably, I'm not.

I keep checking to see if Canon is going to release a 10d or DRebel replacement by the fall. A Helix Camera Rep. told me the prices were to come down to remain competitive against the Nikon D70. He also pressed his Canon Rep. to see if anything new was going to be released? The Rep. said no comment! ?!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

With the price reduction, a new buyer could get the Drebel kit, and a good telephoto zoom for less than the D70 kit. Or, the Drebel body and a 28-135 IS. Very tempting for the primary Drebel market...

It sounds more like competitive pricing issues. It is not unusual for prices to start to take a decline after 6 months, especially for high tech equipment.

I bought my DRebel in Oct 2003, and got a $100 rebate at Circuit City for the purchase, making the $999 Kit price effectively $899. It was both, in-stock and the cheapest net price at the time...an unusual combination.
