my first rose-breasted grosbeak!

They might be common for some of you, but I've never even seen one until today. I came home this afternoon to three pair of them on my feeders, dashed inside to thumb through the field guide for some help, and then looked on the cover. Yep, cover shot was a rose-breasted grosbeak... duh...
anyway, comments welcome, thanks for looking and all that noise.

Again, I'm really surprised! i thought this bird (being colorful and rare around here) would draw some comments...

Allen, I was out trying to get better horned owl shots and when I got back there were at least ten rose-breasted grosbeaks at work on my feeders in the backyard.
Until today I had never seen one, and now there are more of them back there than anything else.

Yes, very pretty birds and very nice shots! That first one definitely saw you so they must not be real skittish.

You did well between the black and the white...hard bird to get the exposure right and you did good! They really are a pretty bird!

I wouldn't know about their song. All I could hear were the usual suspects who were making so much noise because these interlopers were hogging their feeders!
I hope these grosbeaks hang around for a few days... I'm working the next two days and won't be here to take pictures during the day. I hate it when work interferes with my life, don't you?
