Well, living in Iceland, isn't it always Fall, unless it's Winter?
I don't know much about the duck really. Only seen it close up the first time last fall. But never seen any duck like that.

He, he...well it never gets really hot during summer (15-20° on celsius) but then again it never gets really cold during winter (0 to -5° on celsius).

Very nice photos of one of my favourite ducks. I believe that this drake is simply molting into breeding plumage. All your ice and cold weather up there have probably retarded his progress.

I think you are right. Thank you. :-)

Wonderful images of the shoveler Sindri. Are they as friendly as the ones in Austin? They let me get within a couple of meters away.

Well the Shovelers I've seen before were very skittish but this time I was lucky and found a good model. ;-)a This is the first time I've been able to get decent shots of this vagrant.

Excellent shots with great colours, the details on the eyes and bill are amazing! I also agree, this is a molting adult drake, this species holds their eclipse plummage until February, which is later than others, so it does appear to be somewhat stunted, perhaps by the cold weather as suggested...I am curious, how long has this bird been there and is he still there?

Thank you for the information and I'm sure you are right. I didn't know that they held their eclipse plummage this long. It was first seen 2 or 3 weeks ago and it's still in the area. :-)

Best regards

Sindri

Great shots. I thought mine was pretty good, but these are wonderful. I have never been able to get real close to these, but I see them mostly in refuges where they have not been close to people.

What Allen said. You got some great close ups here. They usually don't let me
get that near.

Nice work Sindri! Like the others I've had a hard time with this duck also.

Wonderful, wonderful! I like the colors reflected in the water and that close-up is to die for! Top notch series as usual from you, Sindri! Gorgeous photos.

Wonderful shots yet pal but man I love that portrait, stunning! I hope we get some shovelers here this season if we get enough water. Excelent captures.
