Took the 100-400 out for a trip to the zoo last weekend, and spotted these. I'm kind of new to bird photography, sorry they're not up to forum standards. Always looking to improve, so comments and critique always welcome.

Very camera shy peacock...I have another shot of just his tail sticking out of some thick bushes as seemed to be hiding from the camera

Guard goose, seemed to be guarding the nest while the other was dining in the pond

Welcome to the Birds forum Back288! :D
Man, these images make me hard to believe you are new to bird photography. They are very...very nice captures. Don't know where you get the idea these are not up to the standards. I don't even know what standards you are talking about. :D
Peacock is always a challenge for many photographers to get great photos, because of its size and behavior. However, you composed the shot nicely and nailed the focus and exposure.
Both the goose and robin images are sharp and look fine on my screen. You are doing great. Keep at it and post more. :)

Thank you for the very kind compliments. There are some amazing images on this forum, I think I've learned more lurking on this forum for the past year or two, than in the past 30 years of attempting photography. I hope to post more soon, there are a pair of cardinals in the neighborhood that have a knack for staying just out of range or just in awful lighting. I've been trying to photograph them since last spring, hopefully this is the year. Thank you again for the great welcome!

That peacock was about as camera-shy as could be, here's the only other shot I managed of him.:D

These are great!

I particularly like the peacock - sharp as you like, with an unusual and imaginative POV. I'm amazed that it's only f/5.6 given the DOF - there's a lot of the bird in focus.

There are no "forum standards" here...just good old sharing and enjoying each other's work. Welcome and keep posting....your shots are beautiful! :)

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.
