I'm taking a week off starting May 7 and I am planning on getting out for a few days, maybe 3 or 4 days during the week to do some photography. I'm taking a "real" vacation later in the summer, but this time I was looking for some suggestions rather close to where I live - Northern Indiana.

I don't want to spend much cash, so I figured I would just drive somewhere within 6hrs or so. Any cool places you know of? I'm thinking about just cruising thru Michigan...not sure. Thanks in advance!

Mammoth caves Ky. Although you’ll need a beefy flash as some of the chambers are huge. There are also lots of interesting photo op type places around the general area. The The Ventriloquist Museum in Ft. Mitchell is kind of cool and defiantly someplace you’ll get some great pics in. Also, you have to head over to Big Bone Lick and Big Beaver Lick state parks if for no other reason that taking a picture of their signs. Bonus points if you get your significant other to pose suggestively next to the sign. ;). Then to top it off, head on to Big Mike’s Mystery house. Lots of fun pics there as you wander through the house. All can be done very inexpensively. Also, there are lots of scenic spots along the way for some serious landscape photog.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

If going into KY, there is also a park to the east of Mammoth about an hour or so if I remember correctly. Cumberland Falls Park or something like that, supposed to be one of only a VERY few waterfalls in world that produces a rainbow from full moon. Have never been at night, but during day is pretty nice.

Lots of places in Brown County. Turkey Run State Park is a nice place. It would be within your 6 hour criterion too. If you have a motocycle, take that with you if you go down there!

Great South Fork in east Tennessee is one of my favorite places in that area. There's also the Joyce Kilmer Wilderness Area in western North Carolina. If you're a golfer, take your clubs as well.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Shades State Recreation Area is nearby and is nice, too. You might also visit Amish country and the covered bridges in Parke County, Indiana. Arcola and Arthur, Illinois, also have a large Amish community. While adults don't wish to be photographed for religious reasons, there are other aspects of their community that are worthy of being photographed.

Other places of note are the Hilbert Conservatory and butterfly exhibit in White River State Park at Indianapolis. The zoo is next door, but it isn't a good one as the animals appear bored and agitated. A much larger and better zoo can be found in St. Louis, Missouri. Also in St. Louis are the Missouri Botanical Gardens, The Butterfly House, Grant's Farm, and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.

Hope that helps. :)
