This one lives in one area in a wooded park and is building a nest hole, but I have heard him drumming on one of those iron Bar-B-Q grills they put up in parks. Weirdest thing. Apr 25, 2007 12:56 | #5 Woodpeckers are considered songbirds, although they don't sing. Instead of singing, they drum on things to announce their territory. I think both males and females do it. Nice yellow-bellied sapsucker you that there - they are really striking to see! -Liz
