Got a couple shots this morning after Early Eagle Shoot.

Looks like you did really well here. What is it exactly you think you are not getting right? I noticed you shoot these in -1/3 EC. If that is in evaluative metering I think you must be underexposing these then bumping exposure a bunch in PP?

Gary, Nice flight shots. Allen is right about the underexposure. It's very difficult to get
right. With the white breast and dark wings against a light background it can really throw
off metering. I've gone to 0 to -.67 EV/Partial Metering mode on flight shots with darker
birds. Seems to get more detail in the wings and body. But each instance is a little different
so you can't just do the same thing each time. I just practice different settings in different
lighting conditions and learn from it.

Gary these are really great. On my monitor (work) the colors and whites are fine.

Here Allen Same Setting and same Shoot another shot which is under exposed.

I assume this is another day? This bg is a lighter gray which means more EC is needed to expose subject properly. +1 to +2 in evaluative for this shot. Hindsight is 20/20 though The closer to white the whole scene is (averaged) the more +EC you need.

EDIT: I just ran this thru photoshop and it needed +2 to make the whites come out. So EC + 1 2/3 was the ticket here.

OK then this was shot against a white cloud then. If you know you are going to be shooting the sky only try M mode and that will fix the meter problem.

I have enough problem keeping then in frame to mess with changing Metering forget it!!!

I'm getting better but clear open sunlight is a whole lot different than shooting Eagles in the Tree filled swamp
