An Afternoon in the life of.... (RSH)

Well. today i found a Red Shouldered Hawk nest with some chicks and a Baby-momma. I also saw dad earlier in the day.

we will start out with dad, being harassed.

Nice series. I have yet to run across a raptor nest, but I keep looking.

hey Reyno, you are the king of RSH shots, any advice on how not to get dive bombed. thats some scary stuff. im really glad i had a large metal camera between me and them talons. stupid guy, why did he have to move his car, it was all going so well.

yea they do. but that once in the thrid shot looks a lot younger than the larger two. is that even possible?

I have heard of hawks laying twice, but it's usually after the first set of eggs got broken or the babies died. Never heard of them laying eggs very far apart, but I guess it can happen.

You got some very cool shots in your mini documentary.

thanks. i plan on going back sometime in the next few days agian.... i gotta figure out a better way to go un noticed though. i really dont want to be a bother to them (although it is on the school campus so there are people around all the time, and are in fact signs warning that the birds will attack people). i was fine while i was using a car for a hide (for more than a half hour), but no sooner than the owner moved it momma took a swing at me, that was all the motivation i needed to head out for the day.

#1 im finding out that the 300 +2x on the 20D doesnt do BIF NEARLY as well as my 400 5.6 (which i lent to a friend for a trip to costa rica and will be getting back this weekend)
#2 i didnt get any shots but got an AMAZING close of view, and feel of what it would be like to get caught by one of those things. if i hadnt been watching her coming from a long way off i might not have even noticed.
and #3, i dont think you would say that if you were there (and i was really wanting 10FPS)
