Grip for 300D

I purchased the grip for the Digital Rebel and after having it for awhile I have decded that it is a great purchase for the price. I basically doubled my battery life and I love holding it in the vertical because all the controls are on the grip the same as on the camera.

My only complaint is that the door cover for the batteries is a bit sloppy. I have checked a couple others and it seems that they are all a bit sloppy and move slightly.

But that being my only complaint says alot. I would recommend the grip to anyone that is looking to add somthing to their camera and can't afford Canon's new 28-300 f2.8 zoom haha.

I think that the door for the battery on the camera itself is also sloppy. One 2 weeks after I bought the camera it got stucked - did not respond to any controls and I knew that the battery was good. I was quite scared. It turned out that I accidently pushed the battery door lock and it was not closed tight.

Anyway, the grip is on my list. I just want to play with it first in a store to make sure I really comfortable with it.

I concur... In December, I made a trip to DC for the funeral of my brother in law, and I had the door open and the battery eject itself onto the asphalt. If my brother hadn't been behind me, I would've lost my battery pack...

When you add the battery grip, what do you do with the original battery door? Does it just come off? I'd like to get the grip eventually.

If it is like the 10D it has a slot that you push back and it pops off. What you do with it is up to you. I still have it in the 10D box here. I feel there is no need for the other one being that I have big ed attached to the 10D at all times.

The door comes off for the origional battery compartment and you need to store it somewhere you won't loose it haha. But it's worth it in the long run.

I think for the 10D, it does pop off AND you can store it sideways to the side of the battery slot so that you won't lose it. It can be stored as such even with the grip assembly inserted. I imagine it would be similar for the dRebel.

Yes, I stand corrected: the slot is in the side of the grip, NOT the side of the battery compartment on the body.

Yes I have the grip, and there is a spot for the battery door on the grip itself. This way you will always have it when you remove the grip.

Heh. You can store the battery door, there, but it also makes a jim-dandy emergency slot to store an extra CF card (sans little plastic case).

I am usually a stickler for reading manuals, but...
I hate the fold-out, map type, 100 languages, manuals that come with the lenses and accesories.
I'm afraid if I unfold it all the way, I will never be able to get the manual closed again!

The only thing worse is the manual that doesn't come with the hand strap.

You really can put it on the 300D with the vertical grip, but don't expect to be able to figure it out on your own, or be able to refer to any instructions packed with the strap (NOT!).
