If I chose to buy a PC with software pre-loaded then I am absolutely positive that I could have also pressed the "on" button and had no problems either. Since I already owned a copy of XP Pro I chose to build my own PC which is the reason for my initial install. Can you do that with your MAC? Personally I have nothing against Apple, but the attitude of some of the "cultists" and their belief that MAC is the end all, be all does annoy me every now and then. To each his own, which is what makes this country so great.

Oh, I almost forgot.

Would building your own computer classify as fine tuning your computer? I guess what I should have said was, people that use Macs generally enjoy using there computers rather than building and maintaining them.

I definately do not think that the Mac is the "end all, be all," ( ) but I do think to the average, run-of-the-mill computer user, the Mac is easier to use. Listen, I built and operated PC's for 10 years before I decided to switch to Macs. I am by no means the bias jerk that has never seen both sides. I've lived both lives, and I can say that my needs (internet, word processing, photo processing) are met with less hassle on a Mac.

P.S.-

Damn, I forgot I said I wasn't going to argue anymore:lol:

I'll bite. I've been a life long computer user. I've used Windows, Linux, and Mac, with Mac being my most recent purchase. I think that a PC and Mac will handle your photography and graphics just fine. Here are a few things to ask yourself.

1) Do you have anti-virus software already? If you don't, then you will save a bit of cash by going with Mac. Macs don't have viruses. I don't have any anti-spyware software on my Mac either and don't have any problems with that.

2) Do you have tons of PC software that you want to use in the future? If so, it maybe cheaper to go with a PC since you won't need to purchase your software again.

3) What else do you use your computer for?

In general, I find that Mac OS stays out of my way a bit better and it has better little apps that get small things done (Quicksilver, TextExtender, stuff like that). It also has Aperture if that's something you're interested in. I use Bibble so I can use it on all platforms. It looks better and licensing on the Mac isn't a huge pain as the OS doesn't phone home.

Either way, you'll be fine with either system. For the record though, I have no problems buying another Mac for myself in the future.

Fine tuning during the initial build is much different then "every day" Tom. I guess since I am a hands on kind of guy I prefer to do it all myself. So maybe consider a MAC guy to be one that owns a Condo. Buys it, moves in but someone else maintains the property. A PC guy owns a house. He moves in, makes improvements, maintains the property, and fixes a mess every now and then.:) But both get to have parties.

PS I had to remove all your smilies to make room for mine.

Hey now, I own a house and I've done quite a few upgrades. I guess that's why I don't own a PC, I'm just too busy with my house.

The platforms are comparable, and each has small advantages and disadvantages. You could always install Windows XP on your Mac via Bootcamp or Parallels if you're really into it. But there are fanatics on both sides as well, and it's a controversial topic as some have noted.

to the OP: Adobe has a crossgrade program to get Mac versions of your Windows program for a small fee.

Also, I might note that a number of computer science majors I know like Macs because they're built on a version of BSD and the standard install contains unix goodies like terminal, gcc, grep, and emacs. Not exactly for the computer illiterate :)

Indeed! Here's something fun to try. Run emacs and type "doctor" without the quotes. Have fun!

YIKES>>>

Well, I am a wedding photographer, I do slideshows, online proofing, I work with CS2 and I dont' think I am illiterate..but when we went into the apple store...WoW I was impressed...

we will probably by both a notebook and desktop...but I wanted to write and see what the wedding photographers are doing...but they moved my thread over here...which is ok..I am still listening and learning...

I kinda just scan over the personal stuff and get to the issues.

I use Pro show gold for my slideshows now..but I was impressed with the Ishow...he made a show with transformations and music in less then a minute...very easy...wow

ive used pc's since the days of dos
never realy had a problem apart fom genral ware and tare

how ever have since started using macs while studding media moving image at college and i just feel soo more intergrated. where as before i would spend a day at the pc and feel tired nower days i can spend 13 hours at a mac compositing matte and not feel exhasted. what i have noticed going from comp house to comp house is that pc based compaines tend to be more formal and office like and mac based companies tend to be more laided back and relaxed

this dosnt help you at all
both will do the same its al down to personal prefrence. find a friend who uses macs and have a long session playing around is my best recomdation

Macs are for blouse wearin' poodle walkers.
PCs are knuckle draggin' mouth breathers.

Seriously... either platform is good. You won't lose either way.

I could care less what people use... but damn, those Apple commercials are REALLY retarded. It makes the company look like a whiny little baby. Even my mac friends all hate them.

I use Pro Show Gold for quick slideshows and Adobe Premiere and After Effects for more elaborate (Fancy) slideshows.

Obviously you are down right ignorant on what can and is available on the Mac - you also probably haven't realized that you have only insulted 80% + of high profile pro photographers.

again:rolleyes:

I viewed you gallery and the slide show with the deep forest music. That can be accopmplished out of the box with all standard software on ANY Mac.

And what you saw is how it is right out of the box.
With the exception of installing Photoshop, you are literally set.

DVD creation, slide shows, recording your own music it's all in the system out of the box.

You could even create a full feature movie just with iMovie or create a sophisticated slide show there too, or from iPhoto - choices out of the box.

That's why you were impressed and you realized it because unlike other posters here, you ARE NOT illiterate as they say above.
