I am not slamming the Mac, in fact, I like the Mac just as much as the next guy.
My statement was pretty vague, and I knew I would get plenty of rebuttal statements towards it.
Since Apple is the sole maker of the main hardware, all of the aftermarket software and hardware is pretty much guaranteed to work on it with relatively little or no problems at all. (This was the same with the Amiga)
So, the computer illiterate people will have an easier time using and adding peripherals to the Mac.

Give a noob a PC with a Linux disc and some extra hardware and see how for they get before they get so frustrated that they toss the machine.

Interesting thread. Since I'm a long-time PC owner & builder, I am certainly biased towards multi-sourced (therefor cheaper) appliances. It's interesting, however, the venom that gets spat towards Macs. In my case, I just want the &$^!!! thing to work. I'm still investigating the two platforms, but unless Vista cleans up its act I'm having trouble leaning that way...

Photoshop is exactly the same on the PC and on the Mac. It doesn't matter if you take a PC or a Mac, one isn't better than the other for photo work. If you get a new Mac with an Intel processor, you can even run Windows on it and run any program that you can run on a PC!

The reason why I'm not using a Mac is because I'm a programmer and the newest version of Java isn't available for the Mac (Apple is slow to update their version of Java). Also, Macs are a bit more expensive than PCs - you pay a premium for the Mac coolness factor...

This usually isn't a factor for me. I have found, however, that some web sites that are designed for IE don't work well with Safari (Apple's web browser). For these I have to launch Firefox - quite annoying. Fortunately, there aren't too many such sites.

Also, Macs are a bit more expensive than PCs - you pay a premium for the Mac coolness factor...

Well, if you compare similarly-equipped Macs and PCs, the price is really about the same (at least in the U.S.).

The laptops can be similar if you compare a refurbed mac vs. new pc, or a hopped up pc vs a new macbook.

It was just cut and paste from Dell's website. Go configure a Dimension with a c2d and a mini with similar specs...it's what I posted above.

Better? It even comes with a keyboard and mouse, which I believe the mini does not.

This is because MS is useless at programming a web browser for some reason. Every version from 5 through the latest iteration of 7 fails just about every compatibility test out there. Designers who program for IE explicitly need to be taken out back and shot alongside Internet Explorer's programming leads.

Pretty sad that Firefox, Safari, Opera etc can get it right, and the behemouth that is MS get's it wrong, every single solitary time. As a programmer and web application developer, it was absolutely infuriating.

If you assert this is an equivalent machine, isn't it incumbant upon you to provide the evidence?
