Did...see above.

A dell with a 20" monitor with similar specs as a 20" imac is $1069. The imac is $1499.

is that a better comparison?

I'm not sure. You'll have provide the specs, hardware and software, for the Dell.

And Vista ultimate has almost the exact same features as home, just with a few extra things that the average hom owner wouldn't use. This isn't Windows vs. OSX, this is PCs are generall cheaper than apple computers.

Vista Home Premium is not similar to Mac OS X Tiger. And what I said was:

Well, if you compare similarly-equipped Macs and PCs, the price is really about the same (at least in the U.S.).

To which you said:

Don't start this....no their not.

And then you proceeded to list a Dell that is not similarly-equipped, hardware and software-wise. What I'd like to see are similarly-equipped Macs and Dells. All the refs I've seen suggest the price differences are a wash, including one by the most Anti-Mac King Paul Thurrott has agreed (external link).

...where all the hardware and software work without conflicts, fear of viruses, spyware or other such nonsense. It is indeed a good world to be in.

No problems what so ever....

It's ok, I can understand if you don't want to believe that nothing is better/cheaper/smarter/sexier/fixes better coffee/makes you feel better about yourself than your mac.

Gooooo post count.

Oh, and I own a MBP, it was more expensive than my Dell laptop and doesn't exactly have better hardware specs...just a slighty faster processor....like .16ghz faster....that's about the only hardware advantage it has and the MBP is refurbed as well.

I've said many times before that the choice of computer should be based upon one's needs and desires. What I am compelled to respond to is factually-inaccurate information. No one ever said you can't get a Windows-based PC for less than a Mac; what we are saying is that similarly-equipped Macs and PS are similarly-priced. Nothing more, nothing less.

Wellll....the dell tower and the imac were about $450 difference between the two....practically the same specs and all...those would be the pc's that most average users would be purchasing...I don't know how much more similar I can get. I can get a local PC store to build me a custom gaming rig for price that will have similar, not exact (like the other comparisons) that would be cheaper.

Yeah, they're comparing two systems with completely different processors and they aren't exactly similar....

And it is obviously biased when they don't bother to get information for some of the PC hardware, but have all of it for the Apple.

You did the same for the core duo vs the core 2 duo.

Yeah, for this (external link) one and this (external link) one for essentially the same money, the Macs have a BETTER processor, MORE L2 cache, and a FASTER front side bus.

And these (external link) are pretty much the same for the SAME PRICE.

They're comparing Dell Precision PCs against mac pros and Dell XPS pc's against imacs....any one see a slight problem with that?

Again, I priced a dimension with the same specs as the mini, and it was less. Also, it's less than a similarly specced iman, even with a monitor added.

Slightly less biased since they both have almost identical processors and the rest of the specs are the same, minus peripheral connection options. Those reviews have different options for memory, hard drives, processors and are all over the place...they prove...well, not much.

Is that he pot calling the kettle black?

There are plenty of PC sites that come to the same conclusion, including the one I referenced above.

[Edited to correct Mac price and include 256 mb VRAM]

So I went to Dell and configured an E520 similar to a 20" iMac. The PC wins on video card (256 vs. 128 mb) and DVD burn speed (16x vs 8x), but it apparently does not include 802.11n wireless, gigabit ethernet, bluetooth or digital optical I/O. The PC was $1,617 and the Mac was $1,749. Is this an unfair comparison of machines, otherwise?

This is funny. I can price the same computer cheaper from the same manufacture. Can you find a link on Apple's website that save you $600?
