I'm buying a new computer and I thought what the hell, maybe it actually makes a difference which one I get.

I dont play games, as I have enough distractions in my life, but I am wondering whether some video cards are better than others for photo editing?

Lightrooms speed is a bit finicky and I was also wondering if someone had good insight into getting a video card that will make it work optimally, understanding of course that its partly the software to blame at this point. I'm planning to get a core 2 duo, 4Gs of ram and lots of storage.

Video cards does not have much effect on color accuracy. Any mid-performer should be fine.

However, I do know that display monitors makes the difference. Get something that's known to be color-accurate. I've heard that certain models from NEC, Lacie or Eizo brands are pro-grade... if you can afford it. Otherwise, get a decent monitor and a utility to calibrate the colors.

Sorry if this doesn't prove to be helpful.

Get a video card with a couple of digital outs, or a digital out and an analog out, or maybe a TV out. Work out what you need. In terms of photography it makes little difference what you buy.
