Sharpest Lens in my Arsenal

Hi,

For a very long time the sharpest, most detail resolving lens had been my 200mm 1.8L. Some of you will already know what this legendary lens is capable and is reputably among Canon's sharpest if not the sharpest.

Recently, a mate of mine passed me a Voigtlander APO Lanthar 125mm f2.5 macro (Canon mount) saying that it is mind blowingly sharp and asked me to check it out. I have to admit that I initially scoff at the idea that such a lens could even compare to my 200mm 1.8L in resolving details. To me it looks like an old school manual focus lens though it is quite well made

So I went out to my studio to take a couple of shots......I was totally BLOWN away. The next day I went out and bought the lens. I attached the following pictures for your preview of the head shot and the 100% crop of the eye and mouth area. Check out the details...

Those are amazingly sharp. If you want I'll take that slouch of a lens off your hands, meaning the 200 1.8. You surely don't need that thing any longer.

Just trying to help. ;)

This it?? (external link)

That is quite sharp though. The detail on her face...needs to shave. Seriously though, sweetness.

The Voigtlander is not only strong in the sharpness department, but it produces some incredible bokeh as well. Hope the TS wouldn't mind me hijacking this thread with a few more additions:

I've been using a Zeiss-Jena 35mm since January, and I'm pretty much stuck on using manual primes. When looking for something on the long end (85mm-135mm) in the future, I will certainly consider this. Would like to know how this compares with the Zeiss 135mm Sonnar.

Thanks for posting the shots…
Steve
