Very nice. How close were you able to get? My merganser experiences have always been that they don't like people getting very close.

Thank you. The Mergansers tend to be shy, however, the ice cover situation sometime pushes them closer to the shore.

Good shots . I have a question for you a little off topic. In all your flight shot handheld tests would you say you like the 400 5.6 prime or the 300 2.8 + 1.4TC better for focus speed and accuracy. I know the 300 is heavier.

I would tend to use the 400 f/5.6.
I think that the focus speed is a bit overrated on the 300 f/2.8 + 1.4TC.
