I have searched around these forums for some good techniques but i cant seem to find an understanding thread. can someone point me in a good direction...

Do you want to add vignetting to an image? Remove some vignetting? What software are you using?

In Photoshop is it under lens corrections, in Lightroom under details I think. (both to add and remove)
