I'm ready to buy my 85mm f1.8 RIGHT NOW!!! I'm out the door at B&H for $383.50 with the hood and uv filter. I've been scouring the sell forum here and at fredmiranda, ebay, everywhere, and anywhere I can think of. I have yet to hit the jackpot. It will it come if I'm patient, but just how patient do you think I should be? Neither will come by my next shoot (Monday 30th) so what do you think? How good a deal do you think I can get used? Would you advise waiting it out?

The used ones don't last long, and with the hood sell for $325 IIRC. Without the hood you can get them as low as $300, but again they are gone in hours. You could try posting a WTB and see if anyone responds.

This is one lens that if you want to save a few bucks, you can buy it used. There are no bad copies that I've ever seen! On the other hand though, it's a great lens to buy new because you'll probably get rid of it.

Keep an eye on this website, they get used ones in for around $300 quite often.

I concur on keeping your eye out on KEH for used lenses. I recently bought a 85/f1.8 in excellent condition for around $285.

Go ahead and grab a new one. This isn't a $4000 prime that you save $800 on by buying used...

Thanks you guys! I ended up bidding $300 on a new one on ebay, so I'll know in the morning and if that doesn't pan out, I will have a great idea for a used one, but I think I will just go back to B&H. Husband gave the go ahead so what the heck!

You will love the 85mm f/1.8! I have it myself, and the bokeh is to die for! Very sharp, and very silent and fast!

Thanks again I went to KEH and a new one is $10 cheaper than B&H. Hey that'll put like a gallon of gas in my car.

so wouldn't that make it wiser to buy used if she's not going to keep it?
