I Use Gulls to Practice BIF Shooting.

a lot if you go to the right place at the right time :) i hate gulls so i try to avoid taking pics of them if i can ;)

He,he....those are focused right and framed pretty good....you just have to practice your exposure a bit...and then all will fall into place.
The 70-200 can get very good results if you can get close enough to them birds. It's all in the fast response and steady tracking....the 70-200 can allow you to practice that.
Now, 300L (any) is a much better BIF lens, however, for those gulls you would not really need it.
Remember, proximity beats FL most of the time.
