I have Epson Stylus Photo RX700 and I love it. Of course, it has its limitations (letter/A4 size prints only) but it works well and doesn't take much space on my desk. I bought it for $270 ($430 - $150 rebate) last fall. I'm still using the ink that came with original packaging, so figuring out where to get ink replacements is a next big thing for me - Epson original cartridges are too expensive. I would be grateful if anybody has an advice on alternative ink suppliers for Epson in US.

I would recommend the Epson R1800. I have one and it is great for gloss, luster, and/or matte papers.

I have had mine for a few years, though I just added the Epson 3800...lots of reasons, but that is for another post (3800 = ~$1200.)

Epson currently has them available refurbished for $299., shipping included. I recommended to a friend of mine and he got one....loves it.

(if it shows out of stock, check back a day or so later...it appears they go in and out of stock as at this price they seem to be sold soon after being refurbed)

If cost is really an issue, the also have the R800 at $139., but the R1800 is a superior printer.

I use an Epson R200 and Epson R260. They are the low range of their photo printers ($80 - $100). They are very mediocre for text, but outstanding for photos. Not the fastest, but the results are superb. Since I don't have a high volume need, they are great for my purposes. The R260 uses Epson's new "dye ink" technology. I recently delivered 100 8 by 10 prints to a school (high school fashion show). Just for comparison I printed some on the R200, some on the R260, and some on a friend's R800. The R260 prints were the most stunning, with the R200 and the R800 about the same. All were excellent and most normal people wouldn't be able to tell a difference.

If you have the profiles matched up correctly and print on the best paper, any of the above will produce lab quality photos that mere mortals couldn't distinguish from anything else.

Like a lot of printers these days, they practically give you the printer, but it's the ink where they make the money.

Good luck and just my 2 cents worth.
