Algonquin Park Moose

I took the day off work yesterday to travel to Algonquin Provincial Park with Dancad and Busbyea both of this forum. We went specifically to shoot displaying Spruce Grouse https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthre​ad.php?t=310796

On our way out of the park after a very long day we managed to spot a Moose feeding in a swamp by the side of the road , the 2 profile shots are from about 15 to 18 feet away and are taken with my 200 F/2.8 and are uncropped , the last one is from about 25 feet and is a small crop 8 x 10, hope you all enjoy C & C welcome and appreciated

Great shots Wayne, Moose are so fun to photograph. Images of them never seem to need much cropping....

Spectacular! I love the last shot....he's licking his lips. I can't believe you got that close without him taking off. wow.

Great shots ... I like the last one best he looks soo tough! I never get to see males on my 2 week vacation there every summer... its always female and calf... not that im complaining

All the moose along Hwy. 60 seem to be quite tolerant of people always stopping to watch them!

That's awfully close! Can't they be dangerous??? great shots, though..

He did take off , but not because of me , there was a guy there with a point and shoot who felt it necessary to try and get to like 5 feet away , I think he was trying to see if they have Nostril hair lol

They can be very dangerous , but at this time of year they're a little more approachable , I certainly wouldn't try to approach one in the fall during the rut

Great series Wayne. I'm still looking for moose shots as well. You guys got ahead of me for Algonquin this week.

Nice work, Wayne. I suppose you didn't need all your bird-catching tricks for something that big and slow. Great colors, levels and detail as is your usual.

Even if they are apparently calmer and smooth tempered at this time of year that guy had alot of balls doing what he did. I couldn't believe it when he emerged from the woods not 5-10 feet from that bull moose - waving his hands and flashing his P&S. I was nervous enough from 25-30 feet away

My wife and I hope to canoe up the Oxtongue when we visit our family cottage (Lake of Bays) in July. The park has always been a great place to go.....just wish I could get up there more often.

I'm still trying to find my first wild moose, maybe one of these days....great shots!

Sorry to revive this thread, I'm new here just joined. Anywho, the moose in Algonquin are quite tame in the sense of not running away when you get close to them. If you approach them slowly you stand a better chance at not scaring them away. I went the last week of May and my boyfriend managed to get about 5 feet away from one on the side of the road. We spotted a total of 9 in 3 days. Unfortunately I hate a really crappy old school HP camera so the pics weren't great. I however just picked up a new canon digital and will be visiting again at the end of June

Great photos by the way I only managed to see 2 bulls out of the 9 I saw.

Man if he's dumb enough to wave his hands in the air like a mad man like he's tryin to get the animals attention he can't've expected anything less than either startling the moose and/or having the thing run at him, geeze some people are dumb. My boyfriend approaching it was extremely slow and calm and low to the ground as to not make it feel threatened, he was just trying to get closer to see a) how close he can get without actually touching it, it was huge lol and b) to get a better shot seeing as the zoom on the cam I had was practically non exhistant lol

For the sake of crappy proof ...
