These are great shots. Did you get another shot of a Pileated on the ground? It seems unusual. The ones I see here are way up at the top.

There were lots of logs down and they stayed on those a lot but the Pileated is VERY shy here and I just have a few shots from anywhere close!

WOW! Terrific shots!
For canonloader, Pileated Woodpeckers often feed on fallen logs in search of their favorite food, carpenter ants.

Great series Allen, I'm partial to the pileated since I have yet to photograph one, but that vireo is superb as well. Fantastic job.

Allen, where was the pileated? I've been hunting for one ever since seeing one flash by in the wetlands, but haven't heard the hammering since that day.
