The pileated woodpecker is a great shot! They are very shy. I have one I'm trying to get. The only shot I have so far is her sticking her head out of a hole in a power pole. Any tips on shooting these?

I used ninja stealth tactics. Pretty normal really:lol: Try to get into position and use something to shield you - a tree between you and them, etc. Move very slowly if they can see you, if not approach more rapid.

But how do you know WHERE to get in position??? Do you walk around looking for bird activity and then plan the shots?
