I just got lightroom today and have been playing around with it.

I have cs2 but it's just to damn confusing. I can't get the hang of it so I picked up lightroom because it supposed to be simpler.

Anyway, how in the world do I save my corrections when I'm done. If I open a pic I have corrected in lightroom with another viewer, it's just the old messed up shot.

Is there a way to save these corrections perminently??

If you want to export a CR2 into a JPG then you need to press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+E.

The CR2 files are nondestructable.

What if the pic/file is a jpg to start? In my other programs, I can repair the pic and then save the changes so that when I open up the pic, it's the repaired pic. Then I make the change in lightroom, only lightroom shows the repaired pic. If I open the pic in "my pics" or another program it's the shot I started with, not the repaired version.

Am I missing something here??

I know I need to do some reading here and learn the program, and it seems like an awesome program (for a novice) but I have a feeling I'm going to be posting alot of newbie questions here in the near future.

Thanks for any help

Mark

Yes. :) LR is quite a bit different than what your used to. What it does is saves your edits to a pic in a database. So your original file is intact. If you want to view your pic with the LR adjustments somewhere else you need to EXPORT it somewhere, anywhere you choose.

If you click on the FILE menu then select EXPORT... A box will pop up with various selections you can make, EXPORT LOCATION, FORMAT (JPEG,TIFF,DNG,PSD) QUALITY, COLOR SPACE, SIZE...

You can aslo setup EXPORT presets with settings you pick. Like Exporting pics you will use for the WEB or anything elese you may think of.

Think of EXPORT as, Save as in other applications.

Mark,

Here’s what I do

For images that can be completely processed in Lightroom I process the image and then create a snap shot. If I want to create other versions IE different crops, a B&W version, one with higher contrast and/or saturation I just create additional snap shot or virtual copy usually a virtual copy so I can compare them side by side.

For images that need cleaning healing or other processing that can only be done in CS-2’ I start by doing as much of the processing as possible in LR then right click on the image and choose edit in CS-2. This creates a PSD copy of the image in LR and opens it in CS-2 for editing. Once I’ve completed my edits in CS-2 I choose save and close the file. The PSD copy of the image is now updated in LR with the changes I’ve made in CS-2 and is also stacked with the original RAW file. I then use the snap shoot and or Virtual copy functions to create different crops or different version IE B&W all of which are saved together in stack making them easy to locate.

When I want to send a image to be printed or post it to the web I simply choose the image or images and choose export from the file menu.

Thank you for the help.
I've been playing around with it and I'm starting to catch on here. I started shooting all raw a while ago, but stopped because of the dificulties I was having with CS-2.

LR is much easier for editing and I am starting to get the hang of it (basics). I know I have a long way to go. I'm sure I'm only taking advantage of a small % of it's potential, but I'll learn as I go .

I guess my main problem is I don't have alot of time to mess around with these things and when I finally have a break-thru, I may not get back to it for a few days & I've forgotten what I did or how I did it.

Anyway, thanks again for your help. It's a start for sure.

This is all so new to me and gets quite frustrating alot.
