Got My 1DMK2. Adorama Came Through :-)

Got my camera on Wednesday. What a beautiful piece of technology. The thing is a brick. Hooked on some L. Took some shots Nothing to post yet, no time. It's 4 AM and I am off to work with four hours of sleep.

I'm chomping at the bit--I ordered my 1DMII from Adorama on March 5th, and you're the first one I've come across that got one from them.

Sooo my big question is, when did you order it? I'm wondering when I might expect mine and they're not telling me squat.

OK, now I feel much better. I just checked and Adorama charged my credit card today. Yahoo! Man, I haven't been this impatient to get something since I was a six year old kid at Christmas time!

Hey you're from Scranton. My dad was from the Wyoming Valley. I pre-ordered on Feb 18th. They hedged with me right to the end. I called them on Tuesday of this week and they told me they would receive thier first shippment today (Friday) Go figure. They were mailing it out the day I called and were telling me something different

Just make sure you wait until the club touches the little white ball before you press the shutter - of course, unless you have the EF 1200mm and you're far enough away that they can't hear it.

Have fun. Are there any ponds on the course? A few duck or swan shots may be in order...

He was a lot smarter than me--he left the area :P !! No, it's really not all that bad a place to live, but it seems that not many kids with an education stay because employment opportunities are limited. The population of the entire area is shrinking.

Man, I'll tell ya, I've dealt with Adorama for 15 years and probably gave them $25,000. worth of business last year alone. Contrary to what some on this forum say, they've always really taken care of me. That's why I'm surprised & kinda irked that they won't tell me anything abut this Mark II order. Now that my card has been charged though, I bet it's on it's way--that will make me a happy camper. Sure wish I had it for tomorrows wedding though.

Enjoy that camera! I was using a couple of 10D's. Do ya think the learning curve will be steep going from the 10D to the D1M2?

OT, I know, but my wife is from Scranton. I used to visit there almost every weekend when her grandmother was still alive and we were living in King Of Prussia. Now we only get there about once a year to do the cemetary visits on Memorial Day. That's a long trip from California.

Scranton is old, but not without charm and a lot of natural beauty. I firmly believe you've seen the worst of your decline. Every visit shows new signs of vitality. There are parts of town I no longer recognize with all the change, and even downtown Scranton is looking a lot better than it did twenty or so years ago.

An annual part of the visit is a stop at Steam Town. Being a railroad lover, that's almost Nirvana for me.

BTW, my own mother was born in Dalton in 1909, but left the area as a very little girl and never really claimed it as home.

We're supposed to stay in a place called 'Settler's Inn' this year. Ever hear of it? Should I bring mosquito netting and a gun?

Anyway, I just thought I'd chime in as long as you guys were chatting about the 'old sod'.

As I'm typing this, Sen. Hillary Clinton is on the Dave Letterman show. She's got family in Scranton, too. Her father was buried here back in the early 90's, & then her and Bill showed up again a few years later for a baptism where President Bill actually became a godfather. The church was only a block away from my studio location at the time--the whole place was a real circus that day.

I really think we've seen the worst of the decline, too. My market area throughout the entire valley covers about a million people, but the population of Scranton is actually down to about 68,000 (hard to believe it was once 150,000). Downtown Scranton looked almost like a ghost town back in the '80's, but it's really looking pretty good once again. We desperately need to get some more of the manufacturing jobs back again though. It's pretty much a service & retail economy--we all deliver each other pizzas all week, then go spend our money at the new Steamtown Mall!

I just drove by Settlers Inn about 3 days ago! You can leave your mosquito netting and your gun at home--it's a very nice place. I'm probably the only person I know that's never actually been in there, but everyone says that it's a really pretty, upscale place. I think people even have wedding ceremonies there. You're safe ! Look me up when you're in town!

Well I guess I learned that B&H has a bit more clout than Adorama when it comes to getting high-demand Canon products. I'm sure gonna keep that in mind in the future!

I can't wait to get my grubby little grabbers on this camera. I'll probably get arrested for stalking the UPS guy on Monday...

Monday might be a bit early when you charge that darn battery it might be more like Fall. LOL
