Need help making good B&W shot.

Hi everyone. I wanted some help in making good B&W from RAW. I feel when I pp to B&W it just doesn't pop out at me and say "WOW!". If there are some tips or some guidance that you can give me it would be appreciated. Thanks.:)

Take it into photoshop in color, use the channel mixer and mix as suits the image. Add contrast and vignette. I think there's a link from my sig about how I do it.
