I found a great horned owl in the woods across from our house this morning, and after taking a slew of shots from behind (and finding it impossible to move around front because of heavy brush and branches obscuring the view) I finally broke a twig to get his attention. He slowly turned my way with only one eye open, looking groggy (must have been a rough night out owling around...) before realizing how close I was. He turned full-face, eyes wide open, then flew off through the woods. It was a very cool moment, if you're into that sort of thing...

I can sympathize... I lived in Dayton for a couple of months (although it seemed like years at the time...) and there really isn't any area available for wildlife or waterfowl. I would recommend a move south, but everyone else from that part of the country already has. We have an immigration problem, but it's not across national borders.
Thanks for the comments, and consider this an invitation to come see Tennessee first hand!

Kordan, you need to go down by the river that runs through town. Even in urban areas the birds come to the water. Bet you would see a bunch. Also a trip to Yellow Springs might net you some also. (I lived up there for a year).

Hahah, that's how I look in the morning. Excellent detail on the feathers. Such a beautiful and mysterious bird.
