Sandhill Family

I have been watching this family of Sandhills for the past few mornings trying to get close to them. Today, I stumbled across them and they did not notice my presence. I was able to get low to the ground and behind a fallen tree. The one negative was that it was cloudy this morning, but the light was even. Here are a few of the family which includes one chick. (Eric, the nest that we sat on did not produce any chicks, beleive it or not, they are still sitting on one egg). These were fun to shoot, they move fast!

I agree that the first shot is bright. I tried a levels adjustment to see if it would help the shot. Not too sure though. This was the only chance I had to get the three of them in the frame together and they were walking right into the reflections of the water to the right. I think I will try late afternoon lighting with these guys. I have seen them for a week now in the same area. Thanks!

Beautiful subjects, Keith, and great work under difficult lighting. I've never seen a baby crane before.

Man that bird looks big a super set of shot's well worth the effort.
