Crowing wood duck?

Any wood duck experts here? Can you tell me why the male wood duck for no noticeable reason tips his head back like he is about to crow. No sound comes out. I noticed this 7-8 times in about a 2 hour period.

Were there any females close by? Some ducks such as Goldeneyes and Mergansers do this exaggeratedly as part of their courtship rituals.

Yes there where 2 females and about 4 males.

Drinking perhaps? I have seen mallards dip then 'crow' as they drink.
