Bald Eagle Attacks Great Blue

Cool action sequence Mitch. Interesting to see how these big birds interact. Here
the large hawks don't bother the GBH or other larger waders, but the turkey vultures
seem to get a rise out of them. Maybe because they show the same aerial profile
as the eagles...

Thanks George and Alyssa. I think the Great Blue Heron can be a dangerous character. I guess it depends on if his beak is longer than the eagles legs. He had to fight it out if it came to that cause the water wasn't deep enough for him to dive.

nice action shots mitch . i laughing at the moment because it reminded me when i came face to face with a barn owl runnins after it getting good persition and beeing a nervouse reck try to get the all time great shot . wy do we do that.

Thanks Jason and EZ. I don't think I thought at any time during this attack that the eagles would actually try and catch the heron. So far, I have never seen an eagle here take the slightest interest in anything but fish. Maybe it's because fish are so plentiful. I've seen pics of other eagles with red meat, but never around here, so if it ever happens, I'm going to be real surprised, and hope I'm there to get a picture of it.

Great captures... would make for an interesting nature book for kids and adults alike... Way to go canonloader...
