this kingfisher dove for a fish while i was prowling around the edge of a marsh. i missed the dive, but got this shot a second or two later. apparently he'd dropped his fish, and had to go back in after it... at least i'm guessing that's what all these mid-air gymnastics were for. i can barely tell which end is which, but it's a safe bet the pointy bits are headed back after "the one that got away"... 30D, Sigma @ 400mm, 1/800 @ f7.1...

I've seen a hundred of these dives and never actually caught one. Nice capture.

My favorite bird. With their high speeds and beautiful color. Great capture, certainly took some timing to get that shot for sure. like the reflection too.
