Try holding the mirror up with you're finger( be aware to don't leave fingerprints) and try turning the camera on an off a couple of times ti'll you here a CLICK sound! then turn it off again and let the mirror go and when you turn it on again it should work fine.

if the above steps don't work there's probably something else wrong with the mirror!

From a list of error codes posted by Chuck Westfall (Canon) on the Rob Galbraith forums some time ago;
---------------
80 SHUTTER
Description: This error occurs in the following conditions:
The EOS D30's self-check system detects that the shutter has not been fully charged (ready to shoot)
The EOS D30's self-check system detects that the shutter operation sequence has not been completed correctly
The built-in flash cannot be recharged after the E-TTL pre-flash, but before the main exposure

Action: Try clearing the error by turning the main power switch OFF and then back ON. If this does not solve the problem, have the EOS D30 examined by a qualified service technician. Top
---------------

81 MIRROR
Description: This error occurs in the following conditions:
The EOS D30's shutter release is pressed to the halfway position and the mirror-down status cannot be verified by the EOS D30's self-checking system
The mirror up/down status cannot be detected during shutter release

Action: Have the EOS D30 examined by a qualified service technician.
