Without putting PP work into images taken with a 5D, is there really a noticeable difference in IQ? Everyone PP's their images even if its just cropping and sharpening. I was just curious if people found their 5D pictures noticeably better than their crop camera pictures right out of the camera.

I jumped from 10D to 5D. I need to do less sharpening and saturation manipulation now.

Maybe. but generally Canon camera produces softer image compared with other brand of camera. Some says that this give us more options to sharpen it.

I gotta say that my workflow of PPing my pics has decreased since I've gotten my 5D. And to answer your question, I don't have to do any PPing out of the camera if the exposure is spot on therefore, I don't bother to PP. Check this post I started a few days ago and there are some great examples of PPd and unprocessed images https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=310997. I love my 5D and even if the exposure is right on, I habitually PP for the reason to see if there is a slight improvement in my images. If I'm gonna hang something on my wall I definitely PP. Hope this helps. :)

With my other cameras I would have to PP to correct the image and get it to my "Starting point" for editing. With the 5D I rarely have to do "corrections." The image is definitely how I shot it, and what I expected of it. I usally take the image and beginning my editing process right out of the camera. (my editing involves crops, B&w conversions, adding grain, etc...)

He did, but he never took a picture with it. It's understandable that he'd ask...

i went from a rebel xt to a 5D and i was amazed at the difference. I shoot in raw, but i have to do very little PP, usually just adjusting the white balance.

A quote from august23
5D + 35L = love in Italy Ok now I know this sounds like a stupid thread already, but hear me out! I like the 24-105. It's great, it's nice to use, whatever. But my god. You guys weren't joking. The 35L on FF is AMAZING. I feel like it's the only lens I need! I've been using it exclusively the last 2 days without any need for wider OR longer. I'm basically just saying, you guys were right, and I shoulda believed you all from the beginning. The 5D and 35L are an amazing pair. I can't imagine the 85L or the 135L......:shock:Thanks for hearing my praise.

august23,
Why do you ask? ???
Can't you print any of the photos you claim you took? ???

As above. I tend to use noticably less post processing with the 5D than I ever did with the 30D. So yes, I'd say the shots are better.

august would probably be a pretty good source for his own question as he owns a 30d with one of the best lense for crop and also had a 5d with some of the best lense, it's just ironic he has to ask us this question without contributing his findings.

i never shot with a crop canon dslr but i find little need for pp most of the time from my 5d when shot with raw.

august23,
You still didn't answer my question - Why do you ask?
I of course notice a big difference between my 5D and my 10D but 12.8 vs 6.3 mg and much better color accuracy could be some of the reason :)
