Quite a corful bird. Are these fairly large? I've never seen one.

Definately an interesting bird. Colors look nice...and he/she seems to have a 'red' eye. Interesting.

This bird is about 44-48cm tall and does have a reddish brown eye.

Hi lawrie. Another interesting capture. I finally figured out why the pics that you have are a tad out of focus. In the 'exif' of the file that you have uploaded, you are at f5.6, 390mm, and a Shutter Speed of 1/250 sec.

Now, maybe you should try 1/400 or 1/500 at 390mm, which might aid in getting rid of some of that camera shake. It's a fair distance away, so you have to use a fast shutter speed...and maybe bump up the ISO speed to 400 or so. That will allow you to reach shutter speeds that will make it less blurry.

It was the first time shooting birds with this lens and I was not too sure of the settings

Hey, I know that feeling. Missed quite a few myself. Nonetheless, have a fun time...that's what matters most. Sometimes, it's not about being technically perfect. There has to be a fun factor, right?
