Black-crowned NIght Heron

One of the herons at Phillippe Park. There are about 1/4 of the original frames. The light was failing and I went to the unaided 200mm and boosted the ISO to 400. Did not like the results of NeatImage, so this is on slightly sharpened in Photoshop. The second picture used the on-camera flash.

There was also a juvenile Yellow-crowned night heron nearby in the deep shade of the mangroves. I have not seen the black-crowned very often and never with the yellow-crowned. I was surprised at how much smaller this bird was than the yellow-crowned night heron.

You guys in Florida sure do have some tame birds to let you get so close.

If Neat Image doesn't work for you, try using the Blur tool set to about 6%. Set the brush size to just taller or wider than the image, then swipe over the whole image a couple times. You should see the graininess disappear. Then use some USM to resharpen. This seems to work for me.

I wouldn't call them "tame", but it helps to be a a place where the birds desire to be and they are more or less accustomed to bicycle and foot traffice across the bridge. Since I am somewhat challenged from a focal length standpoint, I need to take advantage when I can.
