Here's the deal. I've owned my 20D for about two years now but I've always shot JPEGs. So I never had to worry about RAW conversion.

Well today, genius me decides today is the day to start using RAW. Everything goes fine until I try and open the images in Photoshop Elements 2.0 (yes 2.0). Obviously that did not work.

So I was reading the stickies and such, and it sounds like a lot of you use Photoshop CS2 + Lightroom. Well that's almost $1000 in software right there, I just can't drop that kind of coin on software, I'd rather just go back to shooting JPEGs.

So I guess my main question is:Is there any RAW converter that works with Photoshop Elements 5.0(which I'm going to upgrade to)?

if i'm not wrong, elements 2.0 supports tiff format, u can shoot in raw and use the canon software to view the cr2 images and then convert them into tiff and then wok on them in elements.

DPP comes with your camera. Use that.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Elements 5 will have the Adobe raw converter built in. Also, as cdi mentioned, Canons own converter, DPP is free, and should have come with your camera. If you don't have it, you can download it for free from Canons site, providing you already have some type of Canon software on your computer.

Use DPP and export to TIFF and edit in PSE5.0 Once you get the workflow down it will be very simple.

Thanks! I didn't even know I had that, had to find the 20D box and sure enough there it was.

Thanks again.

Once you install DPP from your 20D disk, make sure and go to Canons site and update it.

Yup, current version of DPP is 3. Yours maybe version 1.
There have been significant updates to the latest version of DPP, so I too would recommend upgrading to the current version.

DPP install what came with your camera in the Canon utility disc and then do all the upgrades from Canons site and watch this

I tried pixmentac.com and it redirects to Adobe's site, it may now have been discontinued as they stated that RSE would be available till the LightRoom comes out.

I still have the RSE 2006 download on my HD. Since it was freeware, would it be legal for me to make it available to anyone who wants it?

I'd go with RSE->Elements 2.0 route and not buy any more software till you need it.

Unless it is clearly stated in the usgae agreement for RSE that you could re-distribute it, I doubt that it would be legal.

Anyway, I also doubt Adobe would be coming after you if you simply gave it to a couple of friends. It's the least they could do for killing an excellent product, and essentially placing it into a $300 image manager.
