I had an awesome time at this show. I ran into jtfdzn for the first time, and I had a nice time eyeing his 5D and 15mm fish. So that was cool. Also, I gave flash a real try for the first time (I knew the performers and pretty much everyone else there, so didn't feel too bashful about blasting away like a noink, that and Joel was there flashing away for the first band too).

Some of the photos are a little soft due to the focus being off and/or motion blur, but it was a rather dynamic environment, so I'm reasonably happy with the results. I was using my 580EX on camera and bouncing off of anything I could find (my grey t-shirt, walls, keyboards). Settings for the most part were Av (-2EC), f/2.8, ISO800, Eval metering...all taken with the 28/1.8. Suggestions/comments always appreciated.

1. This one is cropped to an 8x10 ratio, which I don't normally do, but I think it works okay for this image. Focus is a little off too, but I like it.

3. His face is oof in this one (he was moving pretty quickly). This is one of the images that I used a random keyboard to bounce my flash off of.

Yeah he is a solo act, sometimes he has some help (pun intended) with the sampling, but most of the time he just plays to his tracks on an ipod. He has some really fun dancy stuff....

Love 'em. I think it's hard for people to appreciate how freakin' dark it is in there. Focusing was a nightmare, for sure.

Good stuff...
