I just bought this lens, boy it has a big hood! Anyway I am just learning how to use it but I quickly found out you get a big shadow using the integrated flash, was not even thinking about that when I bought it. I assume this is normal, I even get it when the hood is off. Anyway I blew my photo gear budget buying this lens and I do not have an accessory flash yet, any suggestions for indoor shots as the lens still seems to need a good amount of light for high enough shutter speeds. I tried auto ISO and it's going up to 3200 for a 1/100th w/o any flash when shooting at 3.5 indoors.

Also to me the front element looks vulnerable, I feel like I should put a thin UV filter on it for protection when shooting outdoors is the filter ring going to show in the corners?

Thanks!

Gotta love being close enough to the action to get a panning shot with the car filling the frame @ 10mm

Yes, it is normal to have a shadow from the pop-up flash. A hot-shoe flash fixes that issue.

You should be able to shoot at 10mm with 1/10 shutter though, I would experiement with slower shutter speeds - at 1/10 and f3.5, you should be able to get some decent shots below ISO 800, pending light of course. But don't expect it to act like a prime in low light.

I have a 77mm Hoya HMV UV filter on mine, and there is no vignetting. I can even stack a second thin filter without any noticeable vignetting.

Enjoy your lens, it is a magnificent purchase - as you can see from this thread of course :)

Love the 10-22, easy walk-about lens and great perspective.

Hi Octowl,

We were told to have a short walk to Mary's Bridge (Marienbrücke), and we had no idea what a big deal about a 'bridge' - as all of us flew half globe here to see THE Castle

Lucky we did it anyway ;)

Took with 400D, my 1st ever Canon.

So, this is the spot to get your tourist shoot :lol::lol: (A G9 Shot below, Sorry):
