The lens is very flare resistance to begin with. 6D | 30D | Powershot S5 | 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 | Tamron 17-50 non-VC | 24-105 f/4L IS | 50 f/1.8 | 85 f/1.8 | 100 f/2.8L Macro IS | 580EX II | Cactus V5

The lens is very flare resistance to begin with. The hood isn't really there to prevent flares. The hood is there to provide your glass protection against banging the edge of the lens against an object or dropping it! V.Sharp

A lot complain on how wide the hood is, which is not ideal for storing in the bag... I think I'll just wait and if I see a used one pop up for a decent price I may just get one for the protection..

(fully knowing its the photographer and not the lens the one doing the photos! ).I must confess that I am a true believer of lens over body, and, before purchasing my first and only camera (a T2i) I decided upon a lens 'road map' which comprised this lens, a 17-55 and a 70-200. Due to some work requirements I decided to purchase the 70-200 f4 first, since I had need of longer focal ranges and already had the kit lens. Soon afterwards, I spent a lot of time debating whether to go for the 10-22 (since I, again, had the kit lens already) but then decided that to have those great lenses while my most used focal range remained with the kit lens seemed not ideal, so I spent what money I had on the 17-55. That left me with the UWA decision postponed for a very long time. Due almost entirely to the quality of work showcased here plus the suggestions of several friends, a imminent trip to Europa, and after debating between this and the Tokina 11-16, I'm very proud to say that, as of today (well, yesterday since its so late), I'm the proud new owner of this wonderful lens! So, I wanted to thank you all, and just introduce myself. I hope I can contribute here often and that my photos get, in time, worthy of the quality that spans over this 342 pages! Since this is a photo-sharing section, I'm also including 4 pictures I took today just testing the lens. Nothing truly spectacular or really interesting places, but I must confess myself completely excited with the lens and its potential! Thanks again, best regards, Rafa. you chose well -Tom
