here's my first attempt with the milky way pano..i should've shot each frame in less than 30 seconds..the stars start to trail at 30 seconds..i light painted the old gas station with a flashlight...

Just fantastic stuff. I am really looking forward to trying to capture this. I noticed both you and NCHANT did pano's. I thought the 10-22 would be wide enough to not make that necessary? Or is it an exposure lengthening technique? I will be taking some shots with my in-law's old barn in the foreground. I had thought about using flash to light paint it but I can see where a flashlight is more controllable. A flash probably would flood too much around the barn. Any advice would be helpful and thanks for the great shot.

The 10-22 is wide, but not that wide :)

The milky way is huge, and sometimes a panorama is best to capture all of what you can see? Usually 10-15 vertical shots with plenty of space either side of the milky way and your set :)

agreed :)

for the scene i did,it was so wide that the old gas station was on one side of the street and the other end of the milky way was on the other side..

I would love to learn how to take picture of the Milky Way do you just point the camera upward then 30sec shutter speed?

I will google it too.

As simple as it gets, yep :) the only things to really consider is high ISO and wide aperture, and you are away :)

Oh and make sure you nail the focus, and have a few beers.
