Here is a couple of things in photoshop that have annoyed me which seem to have been an issue for the last few versions...

First Annoyance - Before you resize and image, it starts off with nice crisp hard edges. Once you resize the crisp edge becomes a soft edge. Is there some way to easily stop this from happening other than cropping it to re-make the hard edge?

Second Annoyance - Guides are especially helpful for web design use. When cutting out images within a layout this use to be a fairly quick way to do it. Well a few versions ago I noticed when selecting within guides using the rectangluar marquee tool it wasn't selecting accurately (or maybe too accurately) when I zoom in, the marquee is often off the guide by about 1 or 2 pixels which forces you to 'free transform' the selection to make it snap to the guide. Anyone know how to stop this lameness?

With regard to the first annoyance. If (after you resize), the zoom level shifts to something like 33% or 66%, then the image will look soft. Re-zoom to either 25% or 50% and you'll see all your nice sharp edges again.

I know what you mean by this, but I'm talking when I size an image down, and the image is at 100% when the edges become soft.

This doesn't make any sense to me, sorry??? It is just a black aquare, how can you derive a soft edge from that?

In Image Size, try using Nearest Neighbor instead of Bicubic Sharper. Even though Bicubic is recommend for reductions, the Nearest Neighbor option doesn't appear to give the anti-alias effect you are seeing.

Create a document, 3500 x 2300 pixels @ 300 dpi

Create a New Layer -> Fill it with Black

Check out the edges zoomed in, no grey edge.......

Now Resize down to 800 pixels high and now look at the edges of the document....exactly like the second screenshot I posted.

Ahhh, so it is the resampling of the image. Now I'll have to research why it's recommended to use Bicubic as opposed to Nearest Neighbor! Thanks! :D
