Hi everyone

I am new to the forum and would like to say that this is a great place for knowledge sharing and for a feeling of community. I am based in Finland and my name is Anu.

I own a rebel XT and S3-IS. The XT has been a good friend but cumbersome so we will part company soon.

I have a problem. I have just bought a new PC with Vista preinstalled. I have also installed Adobe Lightroom and adobe photoshop CS3. After editing images in either of these applications and then viewing them outside the applications the images are not the same.

In the applications images are vibrant, colorful and have a good midtone level. Anywhere else and they are flat, desaturated and lacking punch.

Could you please advise me on what steps to take to make the discrepancies go away.

My many thanks

Anu

I am totally the wrong person to ask, but I'm going to guess that you are using Adobe RGB in Photoshop.. When viewing in other programs, they read in sRGB if I understand correctly.

Maybe you can try to save one of your images in the sRGB color space and see if it looks different.

Hopefully one of our resident experts will be able to help a little bit more...

Kristy is mostly right.

Check out this thread for lots of info as well.

Basically PS can Lightroom are color managed applications whereas "other" applications are not. Lightroom defaults to ProPhoto RGB. You can set your workspaces to any of the before mentioned as well. Read the thread above for the answers in depth.

Thankyou both for the input. And im happy for you Kristy, Thanks.

I have one further problem.I think when i import JPEG files from the S3IS into lightroom they are automaticaly converted to TIFF. Then while still in lightroom i open the file i am still working on, with the changes i have made in CS3 and continue editing. When i have finished i want to save the result from CS3 to my HDD but there is no option to save as a JPEG file.

Any ideas where im going wrong

Many tahnks, Anu

I have yet to import any JPEG files so I don't know if you can convert them to TIFF upon import but I don't know why you would. Lightroom edits are non-destructive.

In order to Save a file as a jpeg it must be 8 bit.
