Forgive us for posting so many Spruce Grouse shots this past week...it's just that we didn't drive 3.5 hours to photograph it and then just make it come and go in a flash!

First shot taken in typical conditions we had in the forest - very dark and shady. The second taken during a rare time when it walk through a sunny patch. It actually stayed in that sunny spot for a few minutes drinking out of a small puddle of water on the mossy floor. Taking a shot of it actually drinking was near impossible as the lower half of its body, and the whole puddle, was obstructed by many twigs therefore I opted for a portrait.

You are forgiven;)

This is a nemesis bird for a great many nature photographers who could best be described as "Professional" so you should be very happy with your captures here Dan. I wish I could have gone on that trip and every time one of you guys posts one of these I keep repeating that to myself. Nice!!!

Very nice portrait shots Dan , it was nearly impossible to get a shot of him drinking , but I guess that depended on where you ended up in the triangulation lol , although mine is not as sharp as your incredible efforts ,,, here he is drinking , hope you don't mind ;) ,

Thanks guys. Much appreciated.

Gary - there will always be other times...

Wayne - glad to see someone was unobstructed enough for a drinking shot. I tried every angle possible and contortioned plenty to try ridding the twigs from my side but to no avail. At least I had the sunny side!

Very nice closeups Dan. Did they really let you get that close?

Mitch, we were within a couple of feet more than once. That bird just didn't seem to care that much of our presence. We first found it perched on a branch...it then flew down literally to our feet. According to my guides these birds are just naturally rediculously tame (some people call them "fool hens" because of this).
