I don't work for this company or have anything to do with them, but my office just bought one of these as a portable storage device since we are getting away from Tape Backups.

I have to say I was VERY impressed with it. Anyone who has built an enterprise class storage solution will tell you for the money this is pretty cool. I thought of my fellow PONT members when I saw this since I see the questions and threads about RAID storage come up a lot.

This holds 5 drives, and even in the NEW RAID 6 configuration which can sustain multiple drive failures.

It’s using a hardware raid engine and connects eSATA, Firewire and USB. Don’t confuse this thing with the crap you see at best buys or one of those Buffalo raid stations. This isn’t a NAS or anything like that. It’s a true hardware RAID based DAS (Direct Attached Storage) system. They even have a SCSI version capable of moving 240MB/s... Thats a dream for anyone doing video.

Just felt like sharing this new find should anyone be looking for someone fairly high end for a personal storage solution.

The fair price is about $1200 + Drives.... But when you look at the cost of buying a good raid card, motherboard, processor, ram, computer case, and all that good stuff, it adds up... This is a pretty cool solution for someone who does not want to manage another computer just for storage, or is working off lets say an Apple Laptop and wants massive ammounts of storage... It also keeps your data save.

Again, just felt like sharing.

I've worked with those units, they are rather nice. I wouldn't call them high end though. More like 'high end for the low end of the market'. But considering I've spent a few months trying to decide what I want to use for my future backups, they are indeed a nice unit at a nice price. The only real problem is if you were going to do it properly you would need 2 units and file verification between units, but thats another kettle of fish.
